Two Rocks

Well this Australia Day long weekend I decided to take the little nevilles for a day trip, up the sandy coast to the little old crayfishing town of Two Rocks. In the old day's people would come up here for two things, one was a day out at the famous ATLANTIS Marine Park and the other was just to lay back on it's sandy beach and do bugger-all! Sadly the marine Park was shut down in 1990, and so now most Perthanites come up this way for the relaxed coastal lifestyle.

You can see the huge sculpture of King Neptune in the background, which was the main reason for this little sneaky walk.

Like I said the Atlantis Marine Park had shut down and closed up, but somebody left the gate open so well...... 'when the cat's away', so we went for a little gander at the old park. Along the path we came upon this old statue of a walrus, it's pretty sad to think nobody gets to see these things anymore.

The mob with King Neptune

This is what the old Marine Park looks like these days poor old thing, fairdinkum I don't know why they don't just make it into a park and picnic area. It wouldn't take much and I reckon people would start coming back just to have a picnic here, and the beach is walking distance.... 'what more do you want'

Just across the carpark from the old Marine Park, they have taken some of the sandstone sculptures and placed them in a little park. Here are the kiddies in frount of whats called Waugal, Aboriginal folklore handed down for generations tells how the waugal dragged its victims down into the depths of the lake to imprison them there forever... 'nice bedtime story hay'

'The Waugals, were legendary spirits with supernatural powers living deep within the Yanchep waters for thousands of years, they featured in mythical rites and were regarded with fear and awe by the local black fellas'.

Yeah maybe but this one doesn't seem to scare me to much, unless you marry it of cause!

Here are the kiddies at a place called Leeman's Landing which is at Wreck Point, now this place has a fair bit of history to it. The place is named after a ship called Vergulde Draeck, which sailed too far east and struck a reef just offshore on the 28th of April 1656. On board was a crew of 193 and eight chests of silver coin to be used in the purchase of spices. While 118 perished in the wreck event, the remaining 75 men managed to get to shore in two small boats, including the captain Pieter Albertsz. He decided to despatch seven of his fittest men in the one seaworthy boat to seek help from Batavia, some 1,400 nautical miles to the north strewth. Miraculously, they reached their destination and raised the alarm, but various rescue missions all failed to find any trace of Albertsz and 68 other castaways. What became of them remains an intriguing mystery.... cool

Here are the little shark biscuts having a swim at Wreck Point.... 'smile and say here comes a wave'

'Got them you little beauty'

So that was our day out at Two Rocks and it was a really beaut day, the kiddies had a ripper time at the beach and if your wondering what little Oscar is doing... Well he likes to run around the edges getting just a little wet, but once he gets a bit more toughter he will be in their just like he's bigger mates.

What is in a street name

Well you know when you have some time up your sleeve, and you could do something that you usually put off like washing the car or cleaning the shed out. Well I decided to put off those things and take the little nevilles for a drive, and see if we could find there street signs!

First cap of the rack was the 'Notso little fella' Oscar with his very own street.

Then a long drive down to Rockingham Beach where we came across the one and only Harrison Street

Then a drive back towards home to we came apon my little princesses street Sarah
